DSS is responsible for the recruitment, licensing, and retention of appropriate homes to care for the children in our custody. The licensing process consists of a detailed home study, hours of retraining for applicants, criminal records check, fingerprinting for FBI records check, reference checks, health inspection, fire inspection, medical and home visits. Homes are relicensed biannually. DSS is also responsible for the investigation of complaints against foster homes that are not in compliance with DSS regulations.
